I don’t know exactly how long this was implemented (a week ago?) but Yukan Blog’s categorical annotated blog list has the potential to assist people in finding new blogs of particular strains, be they week-to-week episode chronicling, intellectual, humorous, varied in content, comprised of many writers, those of the Yukan staff, or yet to be filtered into a particular classification. (’Kings of Funny’ is gender-specific but its intent is understood.) Although I found only a handful of new blogs that interested me in an initial run through all classifications, others may have more success in discovering different voices that resonate with their prose-reading personalities.
This blog can be found under “little of everything” (i.e. miscellany) accompanied by the following, as of this writing:
When you don’t feel like watching anime for a while, CalAggie is here to deliver all the news! Not once has he blogged a particular episode or review any movies (or so blissmo thinks), so this is definitely the place to be if you just want to be updated with all the latest gossip in the Anime World. CalAggie is also an awesome guy himself, who started a Podcast a while back but is also willing to join the Podcast at Yukan if he can too. CalAggie is brilliant at wording his thoughts and his blog is really pretty. He also had an old blog some time back, and this is now his new one! CalAggie is a man searching to fill in his spare time.

On this edition of the Nigorimasen! Podcast, I converse with Hinano and jpmeyer about RenAi Blogger, Pangya, a certain almanacker, fan artists, how the number of interesting series has declined year-over-year (I was trying to think of Michiko To Hatchin), a bit of graphic novel talk, and more. Don’t forget to attend the panel that they and DS are hosting at NYAF - Saturday, September 27th 12:30-1:30 pm in the Anime Fandom Room (Room 1A14)!
I’m sorry if you can hear faint static - when I tried to use noise removal, the speech sounded like we were underwater so I ended up not tweaking it that way. Also, I’m also experimenting with podPress because I want to get download estimates; the former streaming interface will show up if you click “Play Now” below. Enjoy!

The first episode of the Nigorimasen! Blogcast was recorded last night with IcyStorm of Minimum Tempo fame as my guest. There was actually some more interesting stuff after the main recording, like magazine subscriptions and rhythm games, so I also crafted a ‘mega’ version that is twenty minutes longer. P.S. I apologize in advance for laughing into my headset mic.

Show notes:
- we began talking about AX a bit (it’s dakimakura, not daimakura - my bad)
- I try to explain Mave-chan (which transitions into discussing the Lucky Star dub & pack-in extras)
- we changed topics to digital anime sales (iTunes, PSN, et al.)
- PLUG: MT is looking for writers! (I also promise to submit some articles.)
- my impressions of playing Naruto: ROAN
- I ask to have Aria explained to me
- I later try to pitch Kiba to Icy
- Mega Version: yet another slipup by me - Donkey Konga and Taito no Tatsujin don’t have lyrics but rather kuchi shÅga.
Music:
Opening: “Punctured” by Electric Eel Shock
Ending (standard): “You are the only one” by Kotono Mitsuishi [lyrics]
Ending (mega): “Boin VS Boin” from Gurren Lagann BEST SOUND

It has been three months ago since I recorded the last episode of Amateur Otaku Radio and I felt like it was time to try reviving it with a different name - the Nigorimasen! Blogcast, at the moment (very unoriginal) - and an slightly altered style. I’ve given up on TalkShoe because of the time scheduling and general interface and also because I feel more comfortable recording on my own time, hopefully with some other people, and posting a finished episode instead of pulling down a low-quality recording and uploading a reworked version.
I want to use Skype more so I plan to involve other people through interviews or dual-hosting - anything to make it more interesting than going solo and rambling for almost an hour and being distracted by sports on the TV. I will likely do this first one solo but if anyone wants to help me get more acclimated to using Skype, my handle is on the contact page and if you are available tomorrow night or would like to be on the air, let me know.
I’ll also try to answer any questions and topic suggestions on the show that are submitted through comments on the previous episode’s post or emails to blogcast [at] crumplednapkin [dawt] net podcast AT nigorimasen DAWT com.
The least of what I plan to cover when I record tomorrow afternoon/evening PDT are:
- my experiences at AX 2008 (won’t try to dwell on this too long)
- short reviews of the stuff I picked up there (manga and others)
- my first couple weeks owning a 360
- recent happenings in legal downloadable anime

One of the main differences between covering anime and covering films or video games is that there is a relatively short lead time - usually 1-3 months - between a title’s production announcement and its airing. Very little information surfaces about the development cycles except for the cast and the basic plot, which hampers the hype potential for most titles with the absence of previews but is likely a result of the quickness with which an anime is produced in Japan.
It takes a bit longer to get things produced for the aftermarket that is America and it has become more important to remind people about which anime are being released and why the purchasing public should care about them. That’s why I was looking forward to the debut of the Funimation Update, a monthly promotional podcast. I don’t listen to many anime podcasts and only occasionally check out Anime Today for the interviews so I figured I would check out this shorter-form, monthly video show. I actually enjoyed watching it as it reminded me of On The Spot (Gamespot’s weekly broadcast show) since the Update alternated between clearly-defined segments and related trailers.
