		<description>Basically, the first character of the two are the same, for the sound of Toh. The reason why the second character is different is because in Thomas, the second character is mah and while in Tom is Mu. The third character in Thomas is for the Si sound.

In another word, if you pronounce the Chinese characters you get something that sounds similar to Tom and Thomas.</description>
